Lent

I'm on a roll today! So we have been talking about giving things up for lent, and why we make a sacrafice. Being raised Catholic, I always give up meat on Fridays during lent. So every Friday Michael reminds me "Mom you can't have meat today it's Friday". What would I do without him? So this morning I am helping him get ready for school, and I start to put mousse in my hand, to tame his hair...and he says "no Mom, I am giving up mousse on Fridays for lent". He was totally serious! Wow...just in time, cause today is Good Friday!

24 Hour Flu

This past Monday night, Michael woke up at 2am calling for me. I asked him what was wrong and said "it feels like someone is stabbing me in the stomach with a knife". Later he got sick and ended up staying home from school (so much for perfect attendance) Tuesday with the 24 hour flu. This was our first experience with a sick child, but I think we handled it well. As Tod and I were cleaning up the carpet (yes), Michael said "I'm sorry". We explained that he didn't need to be sorry, he didn't do it on purpose. Besides that's what families do for eachother, when one is sick the others take care of them. But it reminded me of a funny story about my childhood.

I was probably Michael's age, and I woke up in the middle of the night with a stomach ache. My Mother was infamous for getting up in the dark and not turning on any lights, she just felt her way around. I guess she thought if she didn't turn on a light, she could go back to sleep faster. Well she went to the bathroom to get me some Pepto Bismal, she poured it on the spoon and put it to my mouth. I turned away and said "no Mom" she insisted it would make my tummy feel better, and convinced me to take the spoonful. As soon as she put it in my mouth I gagged, she turned on the light, and gasped...she had given me a teaspoon full of Calamine Lotion! Well back in the 70's Pepto came in a distinct triangular shaped bottle...Calamine came in a round bottle...but they were both pink! She called poison control and they said I would be fine. I'm still not sure how she didn't notice the bottle felt different, but that's what happens when you give your kid medicine in the dark!

Michael felt better Wednesday and went to school, even won his baseball game Wednesday night. Unfortunately now Tod is sick. I'm gonna open all the windows inthe house tomorrow and get this flu bug outta here. That's another thing my Mother used to do when we were sick. I guess I got some good ideas from her!

Happy Easter everyone!
