Sorry it's been a while since my last post. We have been so busy with baseball! Last night Michael was the batboy at the North Lincoln High School baseball game, they won. I wish you could have seen the smile on his face...for 2 1/2 hours! Priceless...
Anyway I am going to make this short, because I have some big news, but I dont want to spill the beans until tomorrow. This Sunday is our big 10th Birthday/Adoption party for Michael. Yes we are busy!!!
Love to you all - The Coles

Lent
I'm on a roll today! So we have been talking about giving things up for lent, and why we make a sacrafice. Being raised Catholic, I always give up meat on Fridays during lent. So every Friday Michael reminds me "Mom you can't have meat today it's Friday". What would I do without him? So this morning I am helping him get ready for school, and I start to put mousse in my hand, to tame his hair...and he says "no Mom, I am giving up mousse on Fridays for lent". He was totally serious! Wow...just in time, cause today is Good Friday!
24 Hour Flu
This past Monday night, Michael woke up at 2am calling for me. I asked him what was wrong and said "it feels like someone is stabbing me in the stomach with a knife". Later he got sick and ended up staying home from school (so much for perfect attendance) Tuesday with the 24 hour flu. This was our first experience with a sick child, but I think we handled it well. As Tod and I were cleaning up the carpet (yes), Michael said "I'm sorry". We explained that he didn't need to be sorry, he didn't do it on purpose. Besides that's what families do for eachother, when one is sick the others take care of them. But it reminded me of a funny story about my childhood.
I was probably Michael's age, and I woke up in the middle of the night with a stomach ache. My Mother was infamous for getting up in the dark and not turning on any lights, she just felt her way around. I guess she thought if she didn't turn on a light, she could go back to sleep faster. Well she went to the bathroom to get me some Pepto Bismal, she poured it on the spoon and put it to my mouth. I turned away and said "no Mom" she insisted it would make my tummy feel better, and convinced me to take the spoonful. As soon as she put it in my mouth I gagged, she turned on the light, and gasped...she had given me a teaspoon full of Calamine Lotion! Well back in the 70's Pepto came in a distinct triangular shaped bottle...Calamine came in a round bottle...but they were both pink! She called poison control and they said I would be fine. I'm still not sure how she didn't notice the bottle felt different, but that's what happens when you give your kid medicine in the dark!
Michael felt better Wednesday and went to school, even won his baseball game Wednesday night. Unfortunately now Tod is sick. I'm gonna open all the windows inthe house tomorrow and get this flu bug outta here. That's another thing my Mother used to do when we were sick. I guess I got some good ideas from her!
Happy Easter everyone!

Good thing...
Last night while we were putting Michael to bed, he was asking lots of questions about Jesus and heaven. We talked about Jesus dying on the cross for us. We talked about the fact that he was then placed in a cave (as Michael referred to it) and that He rose from the dead. Michael insisted that angels carried Him from the tomb up to heaven. Who am I to argue with that. Then as we are lying in his bed talking about the angles carrying Jesus to heaven, Michael said "it's a good thing they didnt have ceiling fan". Yes it is a good thing...
No word on the adoption, so we wait. I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Terrific Kid
Today is a very exciting day for Michael, well for the whole Coles family really. Michael is getting the "Terrific Kid" award at school today. He found out Monday that he would be getting the award today, and that is all he has been able to think about, all week! Wednesday morning I went to get him up for school and he said "Mom I was thinking about the terrific kid award". I mean...we have known for months that he is a terrific kid, but now he actually gets the award! This morning he told Tod "Dad, I need to look like a Rock Star today". So Tod spiked his hair and he wore a neat shirt.
Then as a bonus, I was leaving for work and Tod said "Honey you look like a rock star's Mom". I'm not really sure what to think about that...
On another topic, we submitted the petition for adoption last month, and we are hoping to have the adoption final soon. Michael has been telling everyone for months that he is going to be adopted ON his birthday (May 3). That is a tall order to fill, since we are at the mercy of the court. But we are hoping it will be finalized near his birthday. So we have started planning a 10th birthday/adoption party for early May. And if you know us, we can't do anything on a small scale. I will fill you in on the details as the date gets closer. Until then have a HAPPY FIRDAY everyone!!!

WOW...it's been a while since my last post! Sorry for that. We have been having so much fun with Michael, just enjoying being parents really. So you know I love to share cute stories...here is the latest. Last night we were tucking Michael in, saying prayers etc, and this was the conversation:
Michael "Mom, last night I had a dream that the king and queen died in a car accident". King and queen of what you ask...I dont know.
Me "Oh no, thats terrible"
Michael "Well the people...they asked you and Dad to be the king and queen, and me"
Me "That's great, so did we get to live in the palace and have servants?"
Michael "Yes...and Mom...Grandpa Fred (my Dad) he was the guard, with his gun"
Me "Oh good, so we were safe with Grandpa guarding us. Good night Michael"
Where does he get this stuff? What an imagination.

Orange Hat
So when we got to my Dad's last week, Michael immediately asked Dad to take him on a 4 wheeler ride. Of course Dad was more than happy to grant his request, but Michael didnt have a hat/toboggan because the one we bought him a few weeks ago, was left at school. So my Dad gives him a bright orange John Deer hat (one that Dad wears hunting). So when they get back from their ride, Michael asks Dad where he got the hat, because he wants one. So Dad offers the hat to Michael, and I said "no, Grandpa will need his hat when he goes hunting next week. We will get you one when we get home". Michael was fine with that, and we left the next day to go visiting more family. We went back to Dad's a few days later, to pick up the tent, and Michael asks him again about the orange hat. Well now Dad tells him "Michael you wait here, and I will give you the hat". OMG...Michael was so happy...you would have thought that hat was the moon, and so he puts the hat on immediately. He wears it all the way home to NC (7 hours), even as he slept in the back seat for 5 hours. We get home and he goes to bed...with the hat still on. Next morning he wakes up, with the hat on...wears it all day while playing outside. He comes in at 5pm to shower, so we can go get some dinner. Immediately after his shower...he puts the hat back on, and wears it out to dinner! I asked him if Grandpa put superglue in the hat? Good news is, if he keeps wearing it 24/7, we can save some money on haircuts!!!
When we asked Michael what his favorite Christmas gifts were, he said "electric scooter, hat and tent".
Check out our pictures to see the Orange Hat.
